Hi,
Can any one guide me on how to set the status of a license as 'expired' automatically on the expiration of its validity.

Do you mean the validity of the license number?
If so use transaction code VX02N to change the valid-to date of the license number.
If you want to change the validity for the license type, then use t.codes VE53 and VE58.
