RE : Backup Restore on Windows oprating system with ORACLE 10g Database

Hello friends ,

we have ORACLE 10g Datbase on Windows 2003 server, i daily take online backup using DB13 tool ,ONLINE FULL BACKUP + REDOLOGS ,i want to test my backup with retsore,so i want to know how to restore my backup, is it possible to test with online backup or else should i take offline backup for testing or Restoration.

Hello Sudhakar,

If I correctly understand your question that you asked is " you want to test your SAP online db backup which you are talking everyday" right?

If Yes, answer will be...

1. You can check the backup log to confirm successful backup.

2. Not sure about your SAP landscape, still you can take your SAP DB backup and do the system refresh or system copy to an other SAP system. After that you have to check the data. By this way also you can check the backup status.

Well, you daily take online backup using DB13.

And you want to be able to restore your daily backup in case of an emergency.

So obviously you will have to test with an online backup.

But of course nothing will prevent you from additional testing with an offline backup, for example for learning, and finding out the differences. And yes, differencies are there, quite a lot.
