Hi,
Would like to hear the experience/opinion of having Dialog Instance (Application Server) running on Windows for a system having the CI & DB running on AIX with DB2 database.
Regards,
Cs
Hi Cs,
In general to run R/3 on the mixed environment you must have the same
SAP R/3 Kernel across the landscape. It means that this R/3 kernel
should be released for all DB/OS combinations used in your mixed SAP
Environment.
Also there must be technical interoperability between NT application
server and UNIX database server. The detailed information you can find
in the document
"SAP® Heterogeneous R/3 Systems Based on UNIX/NT Combinations"
Please find this document on the SAP Market Place:
http://service.sap.com/platforms -> Strategies-> Mixed SAP Environment

Vincent

Hi Vincet,
Thanks for the reply, in fact the documents available at the mentioned link was too old,ie released on 1998.Is it mean that if i have IBM hardware for the DB/CI then for the Wintel application server i need to have IBM hardware? or i can use any other h/w like HP for that?
Regards,
Cs
I have the similar configuration for one of my customer. Some tips;
1. Try to use 64-bit hardware and OS for Windows. (32-bit will still work, but may give you tough time with ABAP memory dumps)
2. Use same kernel release -- Mandatory (Use different CTRUN in instance profile)
3. You may want to use some windows interoperability tools for file sharing.. (I used SAMBA server. There are other alternatives as well example: NFS client for Windows)
4. You need to generate ABAP loads for your new platform (SGEN) --> Check database for space
5. Check your interface scripts compatibility, if any...
6. Check your backup tool compatibility, if you wish to backup local binaries.. (Optional)

hi sam,
I ever installed Linux (Intel based) as application server for AIX based DB and CI instance. It worked fine.
I suggest you use Linux than Windows as application server since your DB and CI server is UNIX (in this case AIX).
