GDT vs. Business Object

Former Member

Hello all,

what is the relationship between Global Data Types (Core Data Type or Aggregate Data Type) and Business Objects in the ESR?

Like I read at help.sap.com, both ones are reusable in different software components. In the FAQ I found for GDTs: "...act as the semantic building blocks for service interfaces.". What does this mean in detail?

Thanks in advance.

Best regards, Stephan

Hi Stephan,

GDTs are data types which act as building blocks for Business Objects. When GDTs are used in Business Objects, they impart a business meaning to the Business Object.

For details please take a look at:

To work with BO data in a business area at a later date, its data structure must be defined using data types in the Enterprise Services Repository
