Check following sap notes

Note 151603 :Copying an SQL Server database (homogeneous system copy)

Note 551915 - R/3 won't start after database restore or database copy

Hi,

Once you retore the DB with your PRD backup/system copy, and install SAP R/3 usually you will find SAP r/3 wouldn't go up due to mismatch of Schema ID(in some cases Restoration doesnot happen due to no match of schema ID in DB level, you need help from your DBA to change the schema ID),

To avoid major errors, you need to run the queries described in Note 151603, 551915, 683447 for successfull system refresh from PRD to DEV.

Hi Frank,

There are different ways to perform your activity.

1. Perform homogeneous system copy using export / import which takes lot of time but it is very clean.

2, Perforom homogeneous system copy using db specific backup / restore porcess which is easy and takes less time.

3. Perform DB specific backup / restore on target system and just reinstall central instance which is fast

For MS SQL database i goto manual back up restore on target system and just reinstall Central instance and start post processing which is unavoidable in all the cases.

If you expect any specific details feel free to contact.

Thanks,

Kiran.
