Is anyone using a SCM multiclient installation?

Hello,

in order to reduce the number of SCM servers we would like to use APO with several clients. Are you running this scenario? Have you seen any problem?

Thanks and regards,

Adolfo

Hi,

You cannot use multiple clients in APO. The reason is BW in APO. BW doesnot support multiple clients and as APO has BW embedded, APO too doesnot support multiple clients.

Check the OSS note 185312 for details.

Thanks for your reply,

we knew about that note but there are other notes that give you some steps to build a multi-client APO system:

-

      • Note 832393 - Release Restrictions for SCM 5.0

Demand Planning - Multiclient Capabilities

SCM 5.0 is based on SAP NetWeaver BI 7.0. This enables DP to work with multiple clients without need of ABAP modifications (see note 522569). The following restrictions apply: - BW client must be defined at the beginning of the implementation and can not be changed afterwards. - Client copies should be avoided. - All BW-objects (like SAP BW Info Cubes, Info Objects, Info Sources and Data Source Systems) are client independent. The BW-Administrator Workbench can only be accessed in the BW-client. If InfoObjects or InfoCubes are created in a non-BW-client, they have to be activated in the BW-client. The same is true for Planning Object Structures and Aggregates; the generated InfoCube/Aggregate also have to be activated in the BW-client. Data Sources have to be created in the system where Data should be extracted from. InfoSources have to be created in the BW-client. - Planning Object Structures names must be unique across clients - Planning Areas and Planning Object Structures can only be accessed in the client where they have been created. - Only one global logical BW data source system can be defined on only for the "SAP BW client". Data loads from an SAP R/3 system or from files can only be performed from "SAP BW client"

We've tested and seen that working in the BW client for some objects and in APO client for others, it works fine.

That's why we are looking for anyone working with this kind of enviroment.

Thanks again and best regards,

Adolfo

Hi,

Yes, the note says that could be done with so many restrictions. We wanted the multiple clients too and contacted SAP but even SAP recommended the use of single client in SCM until 5.0 because of the restrictions with BW obejcts and likely complications in CIF transfers. I am not sure about the newer version.

If you find a way of using multiple clients successfully, please let us know how you did it.

Thanks.

Hi,

we tested it with simple scenarios. We worked on the BW client for DP not client dependent objects and in the particular client for the other. So far, we found not issues.

We are still looking for other references working with this scenario.

Thanks and best regads,

Adolfo

Hi Adolfo,

we are currently deciding wether to have a single APO system or not (one golden and two for testing pourposes) and we are evaluating pros and cons for DP.

did you finally arrive to a conclusion on this?

regards,

J.
