Hi ,

Product category is as similar to Material Groups in MM and this is defined with unique ID that is Category ID (Mateiral Group ID in the material management system).

In MM you have to categorise the Material under any one of the Material group and in SRM you have to create the product(Material) under the Product category.

If you want to use the Backend catergories then you have to use the Middleware setting to replicate from MM to SRM.

If you want create the Local categories then you have to use the Tcode COMM_HIERARCHY in SRM system.

Cheers!!!

Hi,

As mentioned earlier Category and category ID is both are same.

Product category is similar as Material Group in the backend system and not Material type.

Yes, you need to select any category if you want to create the product using Tcode COMMPR01.

Concepts remais same as similar MM.

Cheers!!!

Yes. When you create a local material you define first Category for Material type and Category of type Material group.

Hi Subhas/NMK

I believe there is no material type concepts in EBP.

Shubash - All materials are always attached with product category in EBP.

You can close the thread since NMK already answered your thread.

It's there, but we don't notice it usually. Go to Trx COMMPR01 and select your product, then you can observe under the product categories, the hierarchy ids:

R3PRODSTYP - Product type - Nothing but material type

R3MATCLASS - Product category - Nothing but Material Group.

Similarly when you create a local product, you will be asked first for choosing the material type(R3PRODSTYP), then your product category. Hope this clears the questions.

Hi Imthiaz,

I concur Imtiaz . yes. In EBP context material type= material (01)and service (02). Not like r/3 material type.

Thanks for your clarifications.

Hi Muthu,

What you are mentioning material (01)and service (02) are 'product type' for SRM

these can be easily seen in std when requestor is seraching for internal goods/services

sorting can be also done on the same.

What Imthiaz is mentioning is 'Product subtype' R3PRODSTYP

can be seen in COMM_HIERARCHY - Maintain Categories and Hierarchies.

thought should share this fine difference.

So to support IA, ECC material types are brought as 'product subtype' in SRM.

But for most if business docs in SRM product category GUID is more important.
