Item Category - Not editable

Hi, can anyone advise why some item category cannot be saved once the SO is saved? E.g Make to Order scenario. Is there a way to make this item category editable even after SO has been saved before?

Hi,

As u confirmedthat u have matained the required item category, if there is no subsequent document is available to the sales order, go to change mode of the sales order select the item line and delete that item, now enter same item again and maintain required item category. it will work.

Note: once there is any subsequent document available u can not change the item category.

Hi, there is another reason. For make to order scenario, if there's sales order stock qty, u can't change the item cat in the SO item as well.

Hi, I hv maintained manual item cats. However, the field is totally 'greyed' out still. This does not happen to 'TAN' item cat. Pls advise further.

In general the item category gets grayed out and if it should not get grayed out you need to integrate with the ABAP'ers

One alternative is as you have saved the sales order , go to VA02 and and enter the same material again and then only you can change the item category manually , provided you have maintained manual item categories in VOV4.

If you want to edit the Item category in Sales order, then in the "Item category determination" (VOV4),you need to have the alternative Item category under the column "MltCa".

If you have not saved any alternative one in the assignment, then system will not accept.

If you want to change the item category in sale order, you have to maintain the same in VOV4 where under the tab "MItCa", maintain the item category which you wanted to change.
