Performance issues, Network and Gateway communication issues

The main issues in our environment is the slowness and we are trying to analyze from multiple directions. We see that the dialogue response times are <500ms. But the customer is experiencing very slow transactional response times including the navigation between screens.

The following are some of errors in SM21 logs that might be of some help:

15:06:40 <hostname>_<SID>_<Instance #> RD ? Q0R K Call of function NiRead failed, RC: -006

When I was looking for SAP help documentation, relevant note (Note 41003: Gateway, Connection reset by peer, errno 232) is not available at SAP Support Portal

As per the note 41003, we have added a new parameter gw/keepalive = 0 to the instance profile of the CI and app servers. This seems to have not fixed the problem.

The note 41003 also provided a better alternative solution to download and apply the latest version of CPIC Programming Library. Let me know if its feasible. If so, provide details about how to obtain that as I couldn't find the version for SAP R/3 3.1H.

The tools available in R/3 3.1h are pretty basic and doesn't seem to provide much information. Can you provide us how to proceed to pinpoint where the system is slow.

- what logs / trace can be enabled.

- As we know response time calculation doesn't include Network time & GUI Time which might make a much difference. How to proceed to pinpoint the origin of the issue.

can you see SMGW entries unusual like many entries , if yes try to delete inactive entries .pls make sure before you delete.

then go to SM58 and do same thing with TRFC sessions .
