What can we do to increase DMS usage as a multi purpose, general DMS?

Dear audience,

The people using this forum must have been on most of the major projects for DMS around the globe.

Generally, in my experience, DMS is used for technical documentation, but what is to stop it being used as a general DMS?

I've worked on a few successful projects where exactly that has been done, but what can we do to increase it? What needs to be done technically?

I have some experiences, both technical and more social/user acceptance. Here are my five cents worth for now:

1. Create a simple workflow that acts as the postman (for scanned stuff)

2. Remove docs the user dont have access to from the CV04N hitlist

3. Get a better scanner interface to DMS. (late archiving is not good enough).

What are your ideas and experiences?

Take a look at Easy DMS.

In our shop the major issue with SAP in general is the UI. Easy DMS is a client interface to DMS that sits inside of Windows Explorer. We adopted Easy DMS across our company for storage of different types of documents.

Unfortunately, Easy DMS is not Vista ready and won't be until believe Jan. 2009. It runs in vista but there are hiccups.

The only downside to Easy DMS is that it is a client app. and as such needs to be maintained on all user's PC.
