hi gurus,
in item category determination system finds by sales doc typeitem category groupitem usage+higher level item category = default item category. when we want to sell the same material as spare part and as well as subcomponent like i mean as bills of material. then how can we maintain two item category groups in one material master. example system has to find tan when it is standard sale and when BOM different item category.
pls throw some light on this.

Also do this. When there is no higher level item catg, then propose the ietm as TAN.
If there is a higher level item catg, then propose this as a child item in BOM.
With this, if it is a stand alone item, it will be treated as TAN.

Maintain two different order types and as the order type is changing you can trigger a different item category.

Here in your question you have asked how you can link two Item Category Groups on Same material number. You cannot do that and you do not need to do that. Your requirement is
1. For selling as a spare part you need a item category say X
2. When the material is exploded as part of BOM you want to use Y
Case 1
Here in configuration for the Sales Document Type and Item Category Group linked to the material in question you define item category as X
Case 2
In configuration for the Sales Document Type and Item Category Group linkedto material master in question define item category either as ERLA or LUMF based on your requirement but control it by using the field Higher level item category group(this is for the material whose component is this part in BOM)
BY this configuration when material is entered as spare the item category identified will be X but if it is exploaded as BOM component it will determine ERLA or LUMF based on parent item category group in High Level Item Category Group determination.

Item catg grp ELRA will make the sub items (child items) not relevant for delivery. They function only as text items. Processing is done only at higher level item (parent item).
Item catg LUMF will allow processing even at sub item / child item level. Availability check & delivery is processed at child item level. If any of the child item is not availble, themain item is not confirmed.
