Reducing The Account group for GL act

Hi guru's

Right now i am in As is process of an implementation project, my q is that suppose client are using 100 acct group but we filing some of are same in nature so we are trying to reduce the no of account group.

but the problem is client want same no of act group wcich they have in their legacy system .

So how we make it as per client requirement.
