I am unable to connect to Crystal Reports Server XI R2 in Crystal Reports Viewer 2008. I read CRSXI R2 needed to be at SP2 or later, so I upgraded to SP2 (now ver #11.5.8.826)
I am not sure what connection URL to enter in CRV.
I have tried the example in CRV Help of http://myserver:8080/dswsbobje/services (where myserver = servername where CRSXI resides) - it keeps coming back to a 'Log on to BusinessObjects Enterpirse' window (I do have a user name & password entered in CRV that is used to log on to CMC) and says "Cannot connect to BusinessObjects Enterpirse at this time. Please try again later."
I am not sure about the 8080 port#. When logging on to CMC, the System field is filled with, myserver:6400, so I tried using the same URL, but with 6400 instead of 8080 - got the same logon window as before.
When I do NOT use a port#, I do NOT get the BOE logon window, but a window titled, Crystal Reports Viewer 2008, which states, 'Cannot Connect to Server. The webservice URL does not appear to be valid.'
When upgrading to SP2, I followed the CRSXIR2 SP2 Upgrade pdf. I have the promotional license and thus, can NOT run Live Office, so I did NOT worry about the Java Web Component Adapter - could this be the problem (the doc said that the Java WCA was used for Live Office and had me skip the Install Java WCA section since not using Live Office). The doc also had a link to download a file for Java Portlets - I did not download and install these. Could this be the problem?
Could someone please point me in the right direction of how to find the correct URL?
CRSXI is on MS WinServer2003 with MS SQL Server 2005.
Thanks,
Jeff
Do you see the Axis page when you go to http://myserver:8080/dswsbobje/ ?

When I enter http://myserver8080/dswsbobje/ in the browser, I get the error: Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.
I am unfamiliar with Axis, please explain.
I presume you tried http://myserver:8080/dswsbobje/ with the : and where myserver is your CRS XI R2 server.
What do you get when you go to http://myserver:8080/ ?
Oh and Axis is a web services engine by Apache and is used to deploy by BO to deploy web services (e.g. Life Office) on Tomcat.
Yes I used : and in place of 'myserver' I used the server name that CRSXI resides on.
http://myserver:8080/ results in the same message, Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage.
Help! I am trying to wrap my head around all of this, so please be patient.
I do not understand fully - I do not have the WCA installed? Doesn't CMC or InfoView use the WCA to access CRSXIr2? Or are you saying I need the Java WCA to access CRSXI in CRV and others won't work with CRV?
I did not install the Java WCA as instructed in the following doc, since I will not be using Live Office:
If I do need to install the Java WCA, I needed to add it before the patch to SP2, so then what?
Thanks, Srinivas, for all the replies!

For completeness, I'll answer this question as well.
I believe your CMC and InfoView. are deployed on IIS.
There are 2 types of WCAs; the .NET WCA and the Java WCA. The .NET WCA is for use with IIS and the Java WCA is for use with a Java based app server (Tomcat, Websphere etc.)
Web Services require the Java WCA to be installed. They do not work with IIS (and the .NET WCA)
What I am trying to accomplish is to access CRSXIR2 via Crystal Reports Viewer 2008 product as stated in the online product literature:
Use Crystal Reports Viewer 2008 to upload, open, refresh and save reports hosted on BusinessObjects Enterprise, BusinessObjects Edge, and Crystal Reports Serveru2014version XI R2 with Service Pack 2, or newer.
Hello Jeff,
I'll state that on my deployment, Crystal Reports Viewer 2008 is able to connect to either XI Release 2 and XI 3.0.
I'll describe how Crystal Reports Viewer 2008 connects to CR Server or BusinessObjects Enterprise, and what's required.
You don't need the Web Component Adapter - the WCA is merely for executing legacy cwr and csp pages within a Web Application Server context.
You do need to have a BusinessObjects Enterprise (or CR Server) Web Services Provider deployment.
The Web Services Provider is a Java Web Application (called dswsbobje - the name in the URL that you specify in the "Configure Server Connections..." menu in the viewer) that's deployed to a Java Web Application Server.
The default installation - if you've not unselected the Java client components - is to install a "Tomcat" Java Web Application Server, and deploy the Web Services Provider on that Tomcat. Tomcat by default uses port 8080 (i.e., the port number in the URL you specify).
To test whether you have this installed, open a web browser and enter the address:
http://<hostname>:<port>/dswsbobje/services
where you replace <hostname> with the installation server machine name and <port> typically with the port number. You should see a list of services.
If you don't, then (1) the Java client components have not been installed, or (2) Java client components have been installed, but Tomcat was configured to use a different port, or (3) Java client components have been installed, but to a different Java Web App Server or to a different machine.
You'd need to speak with the person who've installed CR Server to find out which of the above applies to you.
If you do see a list of services, then ensure you see the "biplatform" services is listed.
If you don't then that means you're using the RTM version of CR Server XI Release 2, that didn't come with that service. You'd need to manually upgrade the Web Services Provider to a newer version.
Sincerely,
Ted Ueda

Hi Ted,
I'm also unable to connect CRSXI R2 with Crystal Reports Viewer, I've followed your instructions that you gave to Jeff in 2008 and I have Tomcat installed on Port 8080 and can see biplatform services when opening dswsbobje in a web browser, but I still receive the same message as Jeff "Cannot connect to BusinessObjects Enterprise at this time. Please try again later"
Could you advise.
Thanks
Nigel
Sorry Ted, should have read your instructions better.
If I put http://<hostname>:<port>/dswsbobje/services in the Configure Server Connections URL Box this now works.
