Dear Experts,
Can anybady explain the process for Putaway and Picking Strategies and exactly what it is and let me know the meaning.
thanks
Raju.
Hi janardhan
Putaway:
Implementation Options
The putaway process includes putting goods away in storage bins in the warehouse. There are putaway strategies in the Warehouse Management (WM) system that simplify the search for appropriate storage bins.
Regardless of how your company executes the putaway process, you can make settings in the system so that goods are put away:
Automatically when you create inbound deliveries
Routinely at certain times
Manually according to overviews of the day's workload that a co-worker has requested
A putaway status is recorded in each delivery item for the purpose of scheduling and monitoring the putaway process. This status indicates what stage the item is at in the putaway process (putaway has started for item A, for instance).
Prerequisites
In the system standard settings, it is a prerequisite for goods receipt to be posted before the item relevant for putaway can be put away completely. This means that the delivery quantity must be the same as the putaway quantity in the inbound delivery.
The Warehouse Management system (WMS) module is fully integrated in Logistics Execution (LE). For example, you can create a WM transfer order directly from the inbound delivery. The current status of the warehouse management process can also be monitored from the delivery, for instance.
Process flow
Putaway with Warehouse Management allows you to use the transfer order as a putaway order.
This is possible in the following scenarios:
Lean-WM
Implementation of the basic functions of the Warehouse Management module (WM) in simply structured warehouses with no stock management at storage bin level.
Implementation of all functions in Warehouse Management (WM)
The use of the WM transfer order as a putaway order offers you the following advantages:
Determination of target data for transfer orders
Splitting transfer orders according to target data
Printing transfer orders or transmitting them in IDoc format
Creation of actual data from the putaway
Confirming transfer orders
Picking :
Implementation Options
The picking process involves taking goods from a storage location and staging the right quantity in a picking area where the goods will be prepared for shipping.
Range of Functions
Regardless of how your company executes the picking process, you can make settings in the system so that picking is carried out
Automatically during Outbound Delivery Creation
Routinely at certain times
Manually according to overviews of the day's workload that an employee has requested
A Picking Status is recorded in each delivery item for the purpose of scheduling and monitoring the picking process. This status indicates where the item is in the picking procedure (picking has started for item A, for instance).
In the system standard settings, it is a prerequisite for goods issue to be posted before the item relevant for picking can be picked completely. Therefore, delivery quantity and picking quantity (picked quantity) in the outbound delivery must be equal.
The Warehouse Management System (WMS) module is fully integrated in Logistics Execution (LE). For example, you can create a WM transfer order directly from the outbound delivery. The current status of the warehouse management process can also be monitored from the delivery, for instance.
You can transfer all data relevant for picking and verification of picking data to a subsystem by using the Delivery Interface.
By using message control, data can be transferred to a subsystem that is being used for picking (see also: Delivery Interface).
Depending on the picking procedure being used, you can either determine delivery-relevant data before picking or wait until after picking is completed to record it. Delivery-relevant data may be made up of the following:
Which batches a material is picked from
Which serial numbers are picked
Which valuation types the stock is taken from
Award if useful to you

Hi there,
If WM is actice for your plant, then you will manage the stocks at storage bin level.
So when there is incoming stock (GR) or outgoing stock (PGI), you will have to create transfer orders to track the movements of the stock in / out of the storage loc.
For eg when doing PGI, you will define from which storage bin the stock has to be picked. For eg LIFO (last in first out) or FIFO (first in first out). Accordingly system will propose which storage bin has to be picked up.
Similarly for incoming goods also.

Hi
In the Warehouse Management system (LE-WM) you support strategies in order to receive proposals from the SAP System
o regarding which storage bins the goods are to be put away
o from which storage bins goods are to be picked.
There are two basic strategies in the system:
o putaway strategies
o picking strategies
With the help of these strategies, the SAP system can use the available transfer and warehouse capacity optimally.
For each storage type, you must define a putaway and a picking strategy.
putaway strategies
The WM system provides the following putaway strategies:
o Fixed bin
Fixed bin assignment per material
o Open storage
One storage bin per storage section
o Addition to existing stock
Attempt to add material to existing stock
o Empty bin
Search for next empty storage bin in the storage section using the storage section indicator in the material master
o Pallet
Search for bin by pallet type in a shelf section
o Bulk storage
Search for bin in the bulk storage area
o No putaway strategy
Manual entry of storage bin
o Near picking bin Search for next empty storage bin near the picking bin (fixed bin
There is the additional strategy "Cross-line stock putaway", which inluences the way the Index of Empty Storage Bins is set up.
picking strategies
The WM system includes the following picking strategies:
o FIFO
First In First Out: The system proposes the oldest quant for the stock pick.
o LIFO
Last In First Out: The system proposes the most recent quant for picking (quant with most recent goods receipt date).
o Partial quantity
Removal of broken pallets first, then standard pallets.
o Large/small
Pick proposal based on quantity.
o Shelf-life expiration date (SLED)
Similar to FIFO, the oldest quant is proposed for picking (the quan with the oldest shelf-life expiration date).
o Fixed bin
The quant is posted to the fixed bin.
o No pick strategy
Manual entry of storage bin.
The strategy "stringent FIFO" is also available as a material-dependent pick strategy. Here, the FIFO principle is applied across all the storage types.

Hi experts!!
I have a problem... I need to added the expiration date in the Transfer Order, because i need to print a label that includes this information (expiration date), but im taking the information from the OT table (LTAP) and the expiration date doesn´t exist here..
What i should do?, I need to include this field in the label
Thanks!
Pako.
Hi,
The picking strategy within the warehouse management functionality is all about how the picking activity is organized. It could include use principles and methods. The strategy for picking involves determination of what item will be picked. example strategies are LIFO, FIFO or shelf life expiration date
On the other hand putaway strategies are used to allocate appropriate bins for picking. These strategies
determine the correct bin for every task. examples - manual entry, fixed bin storage etc.

Janani
