Doubt in some terminology used in SAP

Former Member

Dear sirs,

We are in the process of migrating a J2ee application from JBoss to SAP Web Application Server Java 6.40. The deployement of the application has reached its final stage. Now we need to prepare the document for Certification. And we are a little confused with the terminology used in SAP (<b>when relating it with the technology used in the application</b>)

Our migrated application uses J2ee with EJB 1.2, JSP, Servlet with struts framework.

Our doubt is related to the following terms,

<b>1. What is "iView" and "Frame set" and how it can be related to our project(we are using struts frame work)

2. what is meant by "portal content"?

3. whar is "PCD Structure"</b>

We got many explanation from the web. <i><b>but got confused in relating it with our technology used in the application.</b></i>

Please help me to prepare the Buisiness package update document..

Thanking you,

With best regards,

Sudheesh...

Hi Sudheesh,

there are different certification types. Are you going for

A) J2EE-certi, where just the NW deployment is tested or

B) EP-CNT-certi, where EP conformance is tested

A is quite easy to achieve but for B you have to

- cast your portal content into a prescribed PCD, using a mutually between you and SAP agreed namespace

- adapt the "portal look" for your portlets aka iViews

- and many other things, described in a doucment called "Portal Content Structuring Guidelines". Your ICC consultant should have provided you with this document and more ...

Dear sirs,

Thankyou very much for your help.

We are not using any iView and work sets here with the project. We are using J2EE with struts framework.(MVC Arichitecture)

But they still denmanding that atleast one iView shoudl be included inorder to be certified.

Is it necessery for the J2ee Certification?

Do we need EPBP certification for our application?

Please help,

With best regards,

Sudheesh...

Hi Sudheesh,

once again: You are simply on the wrong track to get certified as EP BP. The standard J2EE certification is the Powered by SAP NetWeaver certification.

Anyhow, of course you theoretically could implement some iView (within the structure the EPBP certifications needs) and integrate your application through an URL iView. But - this doesn't seem to be what you want to achieve. And: Be aware that this also needs using the portal theme to hold as "integrated" (which I don't expect works from scratch at your side).

So, my first answer still holds: Change the certification process, away from EPBP to PoweredBy.

Hope it helps

Sudheesh,

for the J2EE-DP you do not have to show any iViews.

But for the EP-CNT and to get the "Powered by SAP NetWeaver" qualification, which is a combination of J2EE-DP + EP-CNT certification you have to "show" at least 1 iView.

The reason for this is, that for the customer, which is going to use your app. you won't appear "EP integrated", unless he finds at least one of your portlets aka iViews running in EP!

Sirs,

Thank you very much for providing valuable infoamation. From all of your comments, I think we need only J2ee certification (and not EPBP) right?

Where can i get more details about these certifications and details about preparing the documents for certification

Thankyou very much,

Best regards,

Sudheesh

Hi Sudheesh,

if you are porting a pure J2EE application to SAP WAS, you won't want to certificate this as a portal business package but certified as "Powered by SAP NetWeaver" (independent from the Portal).

Hope it helps

Hi Sudheesh,

the terms you've listed are all from the Enterprise Portal area. Find the official definitions of those taken from the SAP's glossary:

Unfortunately, I'm not quite familiar with Struts, so I can't help you map the portal's terminology ot it.

P.S. The <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_glossary/en/index.htm">link</a> to the SAP's glossary in case you'd like to lookup other terms.
