Can anyone helps me in finding the solution for the below questions ..all are based on Integration Server..
1) Effect of making the system as Integration Server / sender/receiver system
2)Why must we configure this basically when we are able to communicate between systems with this set up
Please let me know if some links for documents are also available to get the purpose of setting up Integration Server...
Hi,
In XI/PI all pipe line process steps are taken care by Integration server. Without integration server we can't execute scenarios. Meanwhile sender & receiver systems are need to pull and push data from out side. without sender & receiver system we can't get/put data from out side. I hope now clear.

thanks to all people who helped me ..
but still getting doubt that
Why we should we configure Integration Server Basically when we are able to communicate between systems with set up...
some more clarification required ...

Hi
Two System can communicate if both are same framework, but in case diffrent application we need a common format. so Integration servere provide us whole framework to convert incoming/outgoing message in open XML format.
Suppose one is Application is Java based and one SAP then for communication u need common format.
The Integration Server is the central part
of the SAP Exchange Infrastructure. We need this to
receive messages from the sender
application and then apply routing
and mapping rules to these messages and
finally to send them to the receiving application.
Each SAP Web Application Server has the Integration
Server Software built in but it is the specific
configuration that activates its role as a central
Integration Server.

Hi
Intergation server : The Integration Server is the SAP Exchange Infrastructure runtime component for receiving messages and controlling how these messages are forwarded.
The Integration Server is the SAP Exchange Infrastructure runtime component for receiving messages and controlling how these messages are forwarded. During configuration of the XI system landscape, an SAP Web AS client is assigned the role of Integration Server. The following two engines work together in this client to control the message flow:
· The Integration Engine is responsible for central Integration Server services, for example, routing and mapping.
· The Business Process Engine is responsible for executing and persisting integration processes

Hi,
The core functionality of Integration server is convert the incoming message into native format which is understood by XI. Once this form of conversion is achieved IS can convert the message to various forms of messages for various kind of system.
The functionality of the IS is more justified when we integration is on heterogeneous systems environment.

Hi,
Integration Server: The system which integrates one or more systems is called the Integaration server. e.g XI
Suppose you are having a scanario called IDOC to FILE. Then in this case you will be sending the IDOC from Application System to Integration Server.

Hi,
We have to make the System As Inetration Server Because, we have to do the necessary Processing in that Server only(like Pipeline Processing Steps)
So we should make it as IS only, if we observe the Other systems like ECC and all we have to make them as Application Systems
