I am currently installing BI, do I need to install the Java stack for BI, or why do I need to install the Java stack for BI? Thanks in advance.
Please note that if you intend to use Web reports, then Java web is a better technology than ABAP web. The Queries can be saved into a Role from Query designer only in Java stack is installed, and this makes listing of reports for a user convenient by adding 'Role menu' in Web application designer. Also, further integration to Enterprise portal can be designed in future if Java stack is installed now.
Please check the BI server's capacity to handle the Java stack installation before going ahead. This component can be installed after initial BI server installtion also, as it is required at the time of reporting.

You need to install it to run BI7 WAD\WEB reports and to use other (non BW) componnents such as the Web Dinpro, Visual Composer and portal.
For using the new Bex Analyzer you dont need the Java stack.
