If system will allow you to create with same name then there will be data redendency, you will be just confused if there comes any changes in data type.

But you can use the same data type in creating the different message types in the same namespace as many times as you want.

You can have same External Definition name as your data type name.

But External Def represents Message Type.

Date type with same name under one namespace can't possible, if u want use same data type of both structure better to create two message type and link with same data type.
