Vessel management

Hello,

Our chemicals business has a requirement that vessel determination be done in SAP. Details are as follows:

Constraints on vessel usage need to be taken into account during production. Certain vessels are always used for a certain product, although they may be used in the production of other products, if available. In a particular vessel, it is possible to produce an amount less than the total vessel capacity, but there is a lower limit on this, i.e. each vessel has a minimum production quantity associated with it. Furthermore, available vessels at production time may have a total capacity less than or greater than the required amount for production. Therefore, it may be necessary to either move the production time forward or produce an amount either less than or greater than the required amount, adjusting for the difference in the next production run for the material.

If a material needs to be produced in a particular amount (based on defined lot size / order quantity), it is necessary to optimally determine what vessels are used and quantities assigned to each vessel on the basis of vessel availability at production time and vessel capacity. Capacity is defined as the range from minimum production amount to total vessel capacity for a single vessel.

This is currently being done manually at the plant. We don't currently have a PP consultant, so any help anyone can provide is greatly appreciated. Is it possible to get at least some of this functionality using standard SAP? Perhaps something could be done using batch management? Thanks in advance.

Regards

Hi,

Check up with the foll. procedure:

Create the Vessels as Work Centers. During Work center creation, in Scheduling view maintain the formula parameters and formula as mentioned in this [Link|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/b1/c03921439a11d189410000e829fbbd/content.htm] .With this formula you can produce an amount either less than or greater than the required qty.

The load on the work center is viewed in CM01.The Overloaded Work center(Vessel) can be adjusted using Capacity Levelling by dipatching to the other work center.

Hope you get an idea with the above. Revert back if required.

Hi Thalia,

Thanks for your reply. So basically by defining formulas in the scheduling of the work area it would be possible to calculate production time and use these formulas with capacity levelling to optimize usage of vessels / work centers? Is there any way to work minimum production capacity into these formulas? Can you suggest any online resources I could check to get a better idea of how this works? Thanks for the help.

Hi,

Using Active version in the Capacity header of the Work center, you can maintain shifts to get Min. Production or Max. Production.

Check up this link: [Capacity Versions|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_47x200/helpdata/en/33/4c99f11d9411d293670000e8323492/content.htm]

Hope you get an idea..
