materials in the BIN question

how does the system know in what bin the material should go ...is there any config we have to do ......how does the sys know that the bin is full and it has to place the material in the empty bin

Bob,

Seems like you are trying to create a Putaway TO. First of all, we define different Bin Types with in the Config and maintain corresponding attributes( Length, Width, Depth e.t.c.). And then we maintain Bin Capacity (e.g. what storage unit types can fit into the bin and how many of them can fit into a particluar storage type).

Logistics Execution->Warehouse Management->Master Data->Storage Bins

Based on the config setting for Bin capacity and based on the stock that is already there in the Bin system will suggest a Bin for putaway. We can maintain strategies for Putaway (e.g. Addition to Stock, Next Empty Bin e.t.c. ) .

This is both config and masterdata.

You can define the capastiy for your bins in customizing weight and volume, then you also must define weight and volume for materials, this you can do in LS02 change bin, there you can define capacity.. And/or you can define storage units on the materials and then you must define storage bin type, these you can define and set up in transaction OMM1. There are more to it than this, but it is a start.
