RWD Uperform and BW (Using BEX Analyzer)

We are currently trying to record our BW/BI training materials with uPerform. When we try to execute the actual query to produce the report while recording, our PCs lock up and no results are returned. It actually takes closing out UPerform and BEX to get the system operational again.

Is anyone else having problems with BEX and UPerofrm?

We have tried changing settings within UPerform but have had no luck.

Suggestions anyone?

Thank you for any help...

Hi Laurah,

We will be recording BI as well in a couple of months so will be interested in your outcome. With uPerform we have allocated 2 Gig of RAM to each PC we record on - do you have enough RAM?

Hi,

We have now loaded the newest version of Uperform. You still have to minimize the step screen to record with BW reports. You also need to avoid signing on via CITRIX. If you use Citrix, it turns your step descriptions in to generalized statements that confuse the user community.

We have stuck with using Excel 2003, since our audience has that version, so I don't know if 2007 works any better.

I must say, the new version documentation looks nicer. But if you recorded anything in INFO PAK, all you can use is the wording from the old documents (tips/tricks etc....). So it is back to beginning for us.

Enjoy!

We finally received this following information from RWD:

I believe this may be a recently discovered issue with recording Business Warehouse while the Recorder toolbar/window is visible. Could you try minimizing the toolbar before starting the recording and see if that resolves the issue? To minimize the toolbar, you will need to click the button that looks like a window with a red arrow pointing down.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue. If not, I should be able to set up a Webex session to troubleshoot this afternoon before 2 PM if you are available.

Thanks,

I was able to record a UPerform with the minimized tool bar, but the results in the task and screen flow section are of no use.

The Procedure did record with partial screen prints (not always the relevant data), but with the direction of 'Click Control'.

So technically this fix works, but the documentation is still pretty useless.

We already have 2 gigs per machine and are having the problem. After more digging, I found that uPerform is using 71,286 by itself; With our security systems and with the BW overhead, 2 gigs does not appear to be enough memory. We are in the process of ordering 2 more gig for the two machines that are doing the recordings.

BW has a reputation of being a memory hog itself, but we are now using the latest and greatest version with more bells and whistles. Our uPeform expert (a consultant) has checked with his company's clients and we are their first client to use netweaver 7.0 with this tool. We have attempted to record without going through Citrix, as well as through Citirx (another challenge, don't go through Citrix! to record anything using uPerform if you can avoid it.)

Turns out this was also a problem when my group tried to record previously using another product. Our source systems (FI,CO,FM and GM) are not having the problem. It is only BW. Things work fine there so long as you do not go through Citrix.

I will keep you informed what we find.

Hi Guys,

It seems that one cannot work smoothly on RWD U-perform with SAP system server/BW. I was working on the SAP system and was facing a taunting task of recording efficiently that too through citrix.

Hoping that RWD shall set up some Patch in the tool to increase its performance factor with SAP server or with the CITRIX.

Hi guys!

I am still having the problem with 4 gigs of RAM. I attended a SAP class in Atlanta and asked my instructor , who knows his BW and has taught for years about Uperform. He knew nothing about the product! I even had to show him where the access point is for BW. I don't take that as a good sign.

As a fall back plan we have set up a document in word and loaded it to Uperform. That document is a listing and example of all BW reports we have. In a separate document we have a basic 'how to run a BW report' for our average users. It is more of a cheat sheet than a Uperform document. We have just loaded it in the Uperform area.

We continue to try to use Uperform and have tried it via Citrix, directly into the application and by loading to a word document as an intermediate step. So far, only the loading into Word works. The bad thing, you do have the 'neat' parts of Uperform. So far it is not worth the effort.

Hi Laurah, thanks for the update. I am still about 2 months away from our BW/BI recording so will post my results then. It is a shame that it still does not work well for you - I would consider raising the issue with RWD as 4 gig should sort out any memory issues - they should be taking your issue on board and sorting it out.

RWD should also know if anyone is successfully recording BW/BI in uPerform, so putting the problem to them should help.

Good luck,

regards,

Allan
