Hi,
In the event that SAP compression must be disabled in order to achieve higher Accelerator efficiency, the environment variable TDW_NOCOMPRESS can be set.
The bad news is that when disabling the SAPGUI compression you receive an annoying screen which stays on top, and cannot be removed.
Does anyone how to solve this issue?
KR - Danny
Hi Danny,
unfortunately it's not possible to suppress this warning popup, as SAP considers switching off the compression as a security issue, as e.g. passwords are transmitted in clear text.
Kind regards,
Martin

Hi all,
turning off SAP GUI compression is not supported by SAP.
If you turn off the compression by whatever means (setting an environment variable or patching SAP GUI files) you will not receive support from SAP.

Most of the WAN Optimization vendors such as Juniper, Riverbed and Blucoat suggest to turn of the SAP compression for maximum WAN optimization. I was just quite confused on the error mesage that pops up when TDW_NOCOMPRESS was set. Is there really data security when it is compressed? Compression of data will still carry the encoding vocabulary in the data stream which could be also less secure, unless it is encrypted or the SNC would be enabled.
Is there an official way or best practice of disabling compression so that WAN optimization vendors could able to optimize SAP GUI?
Regards
Eric
