I am technical person , i would like to know what is this serial number . why we use it. in my sytem i only find the serial number in outboud delivery.not in sales order why like this.
You can use this component to identify and differentiate between individual items of material. This component therefore ideally supplements the material master record, which may contain all data for describing and managing a piece of material, but which does not enable you to differentiate between individual items of that material.

Extended Warehouse Management (EWM) assigns the serial number to the delivery items in the delivery document. When you are packing a delivery item, EWM also saves the assignment of the corresponding Handling Unit (HU). You can print out the serial numbers together with the delivery note.
Serial numbers exist in the delivery for stock transfers and for the goods receipt and goods issue processes.
