Kernel installation

Former Member

We are under solution manager 4.00 under windows 2003 enterprise edition/oracle.

Our kernel level is 7.00/75

I am in the process of installing support packages SAPKA70014 and SAPKW70014 in sequence. To install the support packages i need to updgrade the kernel to patch 7.00/133. We are under kernel 7.00 patch 75. After upgrading to kernel 7.00 patch 133 i am not able to start disp+work .exe, i mean solution manager is not working. But if it is under kernel patch 75 solution manager is starting.

Now i am stuck up here , that unless i install kernel 7.00/133 i can't go head in installing the support packages. Support packages have to be installed (can't avoid them) I am in the middle of installing.

Friends pl help me how to proceed to install kernel 7.00/133 and make disp_work.exe(solutionmanager running).

thnaks

I have copied the details from service market place from where u download both DB Dependent and # DB independent kernel.

( you can see # before Database independent)

Choose the same version from # DB IN.. kernel for which you have choosen for DB kernel)

for eg ,

( this is db dependent )

SAR SAPEXE_114-20001354.SAR Kernel Part I (for Basis 7.00)

( this is db independent)

SAR SAPEXE_114-20001354.SAR Kernel Part I (for Basis 7.00)

Both same 114.........

(-- details from service market place to download kernel)

SAP KERNEL 7.00 64-BIT

Windows Server on x64 64bit

#Database independent ---> DB independent

DB2 UDB

DB2/390

DB2/400

MaxDB

MS SQL SERVER

ORACLE--->>>> DB Dependent

Hi ,

We are on Windows 2003 server. How can i know whether we are Windows Server on IA64 64bit or

Windows Server on x64 64bit.

Please help me.

Thanks

Start - execute - "winmsd".

The processors are listed there as "Xeon" or "AMD" which would be x64/x86_64 and listed as "Itanium-2" if you´re on IA64.

Hi ,

Thanks for the reply.

I could see the processor in our system as

System Type X86-based PC

Processor x86 Family 6 Model 15 Stepping 6 GenuineIntel 3000 Mhz

But in the Service.sap.com--->Solution Manager - kernal Patches i could see only x64 64 bit, can i download the same and install even though we are under x86.

Thanks

You have no 64bit processor - you need to download the 32bit kernel patches.

We are under Solution mgr (4.0)unicode system,

X86.. In the downloads section I couldn't see

X64 32 bit.

Can you please help me to know what correct version i need to download .

x64 is 64bit - you won´t find 32bit binaries there.

Thanks again.

SAP KERNEL 7.00 32-BIT UNICODE

Linux on IA32 32bit

OS/400

Windows Server on IA32 32bit

z/OS 32bit

I could see only Windows Server on IA32 32bit

we are under System Type X86-based PC, is it okay if i install Windows Server on IA32 32bit this kernel patch.

yes, that is the same - x86 == IA32.

Hi Rama,

The path in the error seems to be wrong.. pls chck as per what Sunil suggested.

Also the kernel has 2 components to be extracted. Database dependent and Database independent( as Mentioned by Markus)

Have you downloaded both of those and extracted? if yes, then please check the path of those 2 location /SYS/exe/run.

take a copy of run folder and copy the uncar ed file from db/db un dependent kernel.

hope it will resolve your issue

IF the environment variables are wrong , then it wouldn't execte at all. When i put back the old kernel everything is fine, but when i put the new kernel the dispatcher will not run.

YEs i have taken a backup

does the R3trans work

do u get rc 0

can u paste the startup log with the new kernel.

where does it hang..

Hi.

Why do you want to implement only these two support packages? On our SolMan system we always take the current stack - kernel and all sp included. This is the easiest way to have a system with the latest patches implemented.

Use JSPM to deploy the new kernel and the java stack. After that you will have no problem to implement the new packages.

best regards,

Martin

hi Rama,

have you stopped the SAP services when you could add the /run/exe folder ( new kernel)?? Please try restarting it from control panel.. It might be because of the existing kernel lib still open or in memory..something like that..

Have you check the /work folder and check the files dev_w0, dev_disp for more information.

Please paste the content of the files..

But before that stop all the sap services and copy the new kernel files /exe/run and try to start..

hope things should work for you..
