Calculate breakdown duration without B/D indicator ticked in tcode IW51

In tcode IW51, in Malfunction data tab, which includes Malfunction Start date/time and End date/time , the breakdown duration is calculated only on ticking the Breakdown Indicator. But it is required to calculate the breakdown duration without ticking this indicator. How do i do it??

I suppose the easiest way would be to append a new field to QMEL, then ustilise user-exit QQMA0014 (Checks before saving a notification) to make the calculation and populate the new field.

This way the standard fields and reports are not affected.

You would then need to append the structure in IW28/29 (list edit reports) to include this same field so that the use can report on this data.
