Header and mass mapping

What is the use of header mapping ? What is the use of mass mapping ?

Header mapping is mainly used for B2B scenarios and is used to map elements in SOAP header.You basically hide your internal object names and expose only certain names to external customers/vendors.Once the mesages reach XI,you do the actual mapping based upon internal name of objects

I never heard of Mass mapping.If you are talking about Message mapping then its used to map the actual payload.

XI message has mainly 2 parts.

The header part is actually used for routing messages and is like an envelope over actual payload

The payload is the part which contains the actual elements/nodes/values.

I dont think there is a concept of mass mapping in XI/PI but portal do have mass mappings.

If you refer to Message mapping then it is required to map the payload of the source and target messages
