hi guys,

What is best practices :

Upgrade 40B (ABAP) to ERP 6.0 (ABAP) ..and JAVA.

Or Upgrading and installing the JAVA later on.

Customers want to upgrade from 40B version on old hardware and likes to leaves the JAVA out of scope. I want to give him the best advice ..but this is not clear to me.

This is the first time we upgrade the 40B to ERP. I do not know if there are many differences between upgrade 40B or from 46C ..

regards

If you customer doesn't want/need the JAVA functionality initially then don't install it. You can always add it later and the move from 4 to 6 is big enough that you don't need to add the hassle of JAVA when they won't be using it. That said, you should install the JAVA component for the Solution Manager system so the BASIS team can get some experience with SAP's 'unique' take on JAVA.

Hello Johan,

I would like to provide you some information. I am not sure if that will answer your query, but it may throw some light on that particular area.

SAP ERP 6.0 is based on Netweaver 2004s platform. It basically provides people, process and information integration which promotes business and reduces Total cost of Ownership. Java stack basically provides the web functionality/web interface for various applications. You may go through the following links:

Hello Johan,

You can upgrade your 4.0B system to ECC 6.0. And after the upgrade you can install the Add-in Java on the upgraded system. Most probably you will also have to consider your hardware upgrade if you are moving from 4.0B to ECC 6. Also if the customer wants to use java functionalities after the upgrade then you will have to consider this as well during your hardware sizing.

You can get the details about the steps specific to 4.0B in the upgrade guide for your OS-DB combination.
