hi,
If the material is not maintained at the storage loca.or plant level then the relevent fields will not be appearing in the MMR...
For eg. Special stocks are mostly maintained at plant level....
Stocks are stored at plant level...NO NET REQUIREMENT calculattions are carried out at this level for MRP..To maintain MRP at storage locaion level also then use need to maintain the MRP4 view of MMR...
If anything else will be updated....
Thanks & Regards

hi,
MATERIAL AT PLANT LEVEL :
The preferred shipping point for a plant is defined as the default shipping point, which depends on the shipping condition and the loading condition.
For the placement of materials in storage (stock put-away), a storage location is assigned to a plant. The storage location depends on the storage condition and the placement situation.
The business area that is responsible for a plant is determined as a function of the division. As a rule, a valuation area corresponds to a plant.
Structure
A plant can assume a variety of roles:
As a maintenance plant, it includes the maintenance objects that are spatially located within this plant. The maintenance tasks that are to be performed are specified within a maintenance planning plant.
As a retail or wholesale site, it makes merchandise available for distribution and sale.
A plant can be subdivided into storage locations, allowing stocks of materials to be broken down according to predefined criteria (for example, location and materials planning aspects).
A plant can be subdivided into locations and operational areas. Subdivision into locations takes geographical criteria into account, whereas subdivision into operational areas reflects responsibilities for maintenance.
MATERIAL AT STORAGE LOC LEVEL :
An organizational unit allowing the differentiation of material stocks within a plant. All data referring to a particular storage location is stored at storage location level. This applies mainly to storage location stocks.
Warehouse Number
An alphanumeric key defining a complex warehousing system consisting of different organizational and technical units (storage areas). All material data specific to warehouse management and relating to a particular warehouse number is stored at warehouse number level. This includes, for example, data on palletizing, stock placement, and stock removal.
Storage Type
A physical or logical storage area that can be defined for a warehouse in the Warehouse Management (WM) system. It consists of one or more storage bins.
Storage types differ according to organizational and technical criteria. The following are typical examples of storage types that can be defined using the WM system:
· Goods receipt area
· Goods receipt area
· Picking area
· High rack storage area
All material data specific to warehouse management and relating to a particular storage type is stored at storage type level. This includes, for example, fixed storage bins as well as maximum and minimum storage bin quantities.
The warehouse number and storage type are of relevance only if your company uses the WM system.

hi,
I have already anwered your question by giving points like..
Effects in MRP from MRP4 view maintainedat St. loc level...
When you maintain at sto.loc. level there will be few fields like warehouse type etc will be display which is one case for material in warehouse...
Managing of special stock....
In addition to the above points when you deal with batch handling...The structure of the material master record allows you to manage stocks of a material by value at plant level or company-code level and by quantity down to storage-location level. Under certain conditions, you may need to make further subdivisions for a material and manage batches.
hope it helps...

Hi Priyanka,
Thanks for your reply!
Let me more clarify my question.
In MM01, while creating material , if i am giving plant and not giving storage location.
Then we can maitain few views like basic data 1,2 ,MRP1 view .
So This material is maintained at plant level, we can not do GR for this material untill and unless we maintain storage location in MM01..
Then what is the purpose for maintaining materials at plant level?

hi,
Now this time if thinking practically, in each n every company there are different plants....there are n number of activities that goes in each plant and in between plants like stock at plant level, stock transfers from plant to plant.....
Now suppose you dump your material not in your plant, but somewhere in nearby plant...and every you take tht material from that plant, when ever the requirements come, so in that case you may require to trasfer your material from Plant to plant.....
Now if your dont maintain your material at plant level then how will it be possible for you to make transfers????
Also, if req. if you want to take a report that for stock at plant level, then hw will you at out???
hope now it fuly clarifies your doubt.....

Hi ,
If you maintain a material @ plant level , then only plant revelant functions will be possible.
And only If you maintain a material @ storage location level , then only functions revelant to storage location will be possible.
A plant can have multiple storage locations, so if you need to perform storage location functions, then you need to extend the material's storage location view.
