An article is having Min/Max parametre as 4 and 6 respectively. The present stock of the article is 5. Still replenishment has run and have replenished the stock by 6 more, making its present stock 11.
Why this has happened?

In this case, I assume that the system calculating Dynamic Safety stock.
Determine a dynamic level of safety stock basis on minimum, target and maximum stock level.
During every planning run, the system checks whether the available quantity is below the minimum stock level. If this is the case, the system creates an order proposal in order to increase the available quantity to at least the target stock.
The dynamic safety stock is calculated on the basis of the average daily requirements and therefore automatically adjusts itself to change in demand.

Dear,
When the item's inventory level falls below a "reorder point" (min),
an order goes to the item supplier for a "reorder quantity" (max).
Basing on the above, Please check the Reorder point and Reorder quantity defined.
I assume that Reorder quantity set to 6, is the reason its procure 6 quantity adding to 5 available quantity.

Its possible to initiate procurement for the minimum quantity even the minimum level not reaches. This called Top Off u2013 in this case replenishment request generaged even if not below minimum quantity or user initiated replenishment request manually.
Meantime please check is there any safety stock declared for the material.

are you using the Fixed lot size...
Provide all other details like :MRP type, LOT size, Planning type, etc...
