Patches on Oracle 10.2 for 10.2.0.4

Former Member

Hi

I have to upgrade oracle from 9.2.0.7 to 10.2.0.4.

I have downloaded 5 CD for Oracle 10.2 with name Ex: 51031678_*.

I have also downloaded client with which is:OCL10232

I also need to apply patches to put oracle to 10.2.0.4.

I had put the forum for the same issue and got to know that i need to navigate to :

http://service.sap.com/swcenter-3pmain

--> Oracle

--> Oracle 10.2.0.4

--> Database RDBMS

--> MS Windows (32-bit)

Question:

Other then 10204_Patch8_WIN32.zip, which other files do i need to download from this path, as i can see four other files?

Can i directly apply these patches on the 10.2 g (level which i will get after upgrade), in order to upgrade oracle to 10.2.0.4.

or

there are other patches as well which i need to apply before, if yes then what are those patches?

Regards

Hello Ricky,

You need to apply 10204_Patch8_WIN32 patch set only. This will take your database from 10.2.0.2 to 10.2.0.4. Unzip the file in a directory other than ORACLE_HOME. Also refer Note 871735. For Patch Installation refer the README.html that is attached with the Patch set.

Yes you can directly apply this patch on the 10.2 g-level which you will get after upgrade.

Sorry but that is not correct!

Eric Brunelle answer is correct.

10204_Patch8_WIN32 is called "minipatch" or "patch collection" and it MUST be installed on top of 10.2.0.4

You can find this information on the minipatch README and on the SAP notes:

> Note 871735 - Current patch set for Oracle 10.2.0

in this one you find out about patch set 10.2.0.4

> Note 1137346 - Oracle Database 10g: Patches for Release 10.2.0.4

In this note you find out about the minitpatch or "patch collection" 8

Hi Guys

Please correct if I am not right.

1.Download 5 files named 51031678_* will be used for DB S/W

Installation and upgrade.

2. Is Download of Client file OCL10232 valid?

3. After all these i will be at level 10.2.0.0, Isn't?

4. Now I want to move to Oracle 10.2.0.4.

Path:

http://service.sap.com/swcenter-3pmain

--> Oracle

--> Oracle 10.2.0.4

--> Database RDBMS

--> MS Windows (32-bit)

5. Is the path mentioned above is right for patching on the standard versions installed?

6. If this path is right then I can see there are five files to

downlaod and which one do i have to download?

I have already download 4 files out of 5 for patching from the above mentioned path. Files names are:

p7357454_10204_Win32

Patchset_10204_Win32aa

Patchset_10204_Win32ab

Patchset_10204_Win32ac.bin

Many Thanks

Ricky

Yes, those 5 CDs contain the RDBMS software

> 2. Is Download of Client file OCL10232 valid?

Yes

You will have the "basic" installation. Level will be 10.2.0.1

Yes

Yes

All files finished in bin. Those files are the patch set 10.2.0.4. In one of the notes I gave it is indicated that the patch set is too big to be provided as one file, so it is splitted.

Additionally you have to install (over 10.2.0.4) a mini patch. At least you MUST install miniptch 5. Recommended to install the latest one (8)

> Patchset_10204_Win32ac.bin

You only need the 4 files you mentioned here.

To find out how to put together the 3 bin files, you can search the forum. It has been asked several times already

Hi

So after the Database software installation, DB version would be 10.2.0.1.

after that i need to apply pacth named:

Patchset_10204_Win32aa

Patchset_10204_Win32ab

Patchset_10204_Win32ac.bin

Then my system will be at 10.2.0.4 level so then i can apply minpatch named 10204_Patch8_WIN32

Question:

1. May i know if i really need to put 3 bins together?

2. Is there any document to apply patch on oracle?

Hi,

I already told you that:

To find out how to put together the 3 bin files, you can search the forum. It has been asked several times already

The note is 509314 "Downloading Oracle patches from SAP Service Marketplace"

The patch set contain a README.

This was also previously indicated.

Please, read the complete thread as it contains all the answers to your old and new questions

1. May i know if i really need to put 3 bins together?

Yes you do.

copy /b Patchset_10204_Win32aaPatchset_10204_Win32abPatchset_10204_Win32ac.bin Patchset_10204_Win32.zip

2. Is there any document to apply patch on oracle?

open the generated zip file, it contains a README file... just read it.

you need patch the opatch directory, the, you patch your db:

e:

cd E:\10204_32\opatch

d:

cd D:\oracle\%ORACLE_SID%\102\opatch

xcopy e: . /s/e/v/y

d:

cd D:\oracle\%ORACLE_SID%\102\opatch

e:

cd E:\10204_32\7357454

d:opatch apply

backup your DB

shutdown DB

you install 10g

you install patch 10.2.0.4

you install patch 8 of Oracle 10.2.0.4

you upgrade database

you run capcpu from patch 8 readme.html

you run "utlprp.sql 0" from patch 8 readme.html

you uninstall old oracle 9i binaries
