Hi,
I am involved in a migration project involving a number of BW systems (which are on different versions of BW) which are to be migrated to one single BI7 system.
The first migration will involve a 2.x system to BI7.
Does anyone have any simple step by step information on how to do this?
Also, does anyone have any architecture hints and tips surrounding migration/upgrades?
Thanks,
Mark.
Clean up your system prior to upgrading ... as in delete any data you don't need such as PSA's and change tables, etc... If you go to unicode, you will need to convert these tables and it will take a lot more time.
Also, it is better to rearchitect whatever you can before the upgrade because you will end up with smaller tables with less requests = fewer records.
Plan on a lot more disk space and CPU being used and plan on using ODS/DSO objects a lot more than in 2.x. They actually become pretty useful in 3.x and then more useful in 7.x.

Hi Mark,
I believe there needs to be an upgrade from 2.x to 3.x first before you can upgrade to 7.0

Just follow steps from 3.x to 7.0 wont be whole lot differences.
