I'm installing R3 4.7x110 SR1 on Oracle/HP-UX. During the database load phase, I am stopped due to the following error:

sapparam: sapargv( argc, argv) has not been called.

sapparam(1c): No Profile used.

sapparam: SAPSYSTEMNAME neither in Profile nor in Commandline

ERROR 2008-10-01 12:50:27 [iaxxbdbld.cpp:1001]

SAPSSEXC.log is not the only log file to be checked but almost all SAP*.log files. All the files have similar logs as below:

Because it appears to be a problem with the DB, I tried to startup from sqlplus. Afterwards, I checked the processes that are running but it lacks oracleDV1 process. (The listener is up inherited from another syste as I have multiple oracle homes)

  1. ps -ef|grep dv1

Thank you for all your suggestions. I have managed to resolve this by installing from scratch. I realized that the environment variables were not created properly during the install. As a key learning, after running the root.sh and other scripts that are prompted during Oracle installation, it is highly suggested to check the files that are being created with this scripts to verify that they are indeed created in the appropriate folders.

Regards!

When did you install Oracle? Before or during the sapinst run?

i installed it during the sapinst run when the popup message appeared: click OK after you have installed the oracle software. i continued with sapinst after the oracle software was installed

The database is running, the problem is, that the adm user can´t connect. Something went wrong during the installation.

Can you

tnsping <SID>

as adm user?

Hi,

It seems your system doesnt have the proper environment variables setup.

Could you please check environment variables on the unix, using the command env on the prompt? and can you the oracle parameter getting reflected there.

If not then you need to to set the proper env in the system.

Thanks

here's the result for the env command

but i always set the following before calling sapinst:

export SHLIB_PATH=usr/sap/DV1/SYS/exe/run:/oracle/DV1/920_64/lib

is there a way to set these permanently?

Did you install Oracle as root?

It´s not necessary to set anything manual, this is all done by sapinst.

I would start again from scratch and try the following:

- start sapinst an proceed until you reach the "install Oracle" point

- logon as "oradv1" and execute RUNINSTALLER (the capital one in the SAP subdirectory, not the default runInstaller)

- install the database

- install the latest patchset

- install the latest interim patch

- and then click on OK to proceed

i installed oracle as ora<sid>.

i think the problem is that the listener is not up. i am also wondering why there is no listener.ora and tnsnames.ora files in /oracle_home/network/admin after the installation.

as mentioned, multiple oracle homes exist which uses only one port for the listener. when I execute lsnrctl status with a different ora<sid> the listener is up. when it is for oradv1 this is the error:

Connecting to (ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=tcp)(PORT=1521))

TNS-12541: TNS:no listener

TNS-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error

TNS-00511: No listener

HPUX Error: 239: Connection refused

When i copied the listener.ora and tnsnames.ora from another instance, i get the following:

TNS-12618: TNS:versions are incompatible

The port I set was 1527 so it is odd that it is connecting to 1521.

If I will start from scratch, what are the steps to uninstall the oracle 9.2 software and what files should be deleted? The other instances are running on 10g.
