An installing process of Solution Manager Diagnostics Agent
on SAP systems using the NetWeaver SR3 Installation Master is in processing.
During the install that the kernel files for a Java
installation are deployed as part of the installation.
What is the correct way to proceed with updating the kernel files for
this Java installation.
In the Service MarketPlace, looking for kernel files for a Windows x64
installation, the SAPEXE_159-20001354.SAR and SAPJ2EE_33-
20001354.SAR were found. The SAPEXE_159 has a more up-to-date version of
the kernel files than what was originally deployed with SR3, but
doesn't this package include the ABAP kernel files as well? The
SAPJ2EE_33 package is outdated when compared to the files deployed with
SR3.
where some general guidelines on updating the kernel
files for the SMD instance can be found ?
Thanks.
Hi,
What is the need to update kernel of SMD?
Are you adviced by any note or OSS Message to do so?
Feel free to revert back.

Hey Ragu,
No, there isn't an OSS Note or Message saying to do so. I'm just thinking that it should be a part of regular maintenance like updating the kernel files on our SAP instances. If not, then that is fine and I will just ignore it, but I figured SAP is always correcting issues with the kernel, so that a regular update would be necessary to avoid running into known problems.

Well, I guess you are talking about the SMD Agent kernel right? If yes, you just have to uncompress the proper kernel in the directory....

Does anyone have any experience updating the kernel files for the SMD Agent? I'm interested to know if you used the latest J2EE file from Service MarketPlace, or if you used the entire ABAP kernel. It seems the latest J2EE file available on the MarketPlace is an older version of what is delivered with the SMD Agent, and if you apply the ABAP kernel, then you're getting a bunch of extra files that you don't need, but it does update the Java kernel files for you since it is a later version than what ships with the SMD Agent.
