Web Dynpro Application Deployment Best Practices

If I want to develop an intensive adaptive RFC Web Dynpro application and deploy the .ear file to a separate J2EE WAS 6.40 installation than the one EP 6.0 is running on, how would I configure the JCo connections?

Today, I deploy my ear to the same WAS as the portal, then I login to the Portal and go to: >> Java Development >> WAS WebDynpro Content Administrator >> [find my application and configure JCo connections].

Would I be able to do this if my EAR is on another WAS installation?

In general, do you want to be running WebDynpro app's on the same WAS that your EP 6 portal is running on?

What are the Best practices for segregating WebDynpro app's, and other portal app's onto separate WAS installations?

Hello Kelly,

1. To configure your JCo connections (where there is no EP installed) go to :

http://<name/ip of the WAS server>:<portno>/index.html

There you would see Web Dynpro click on that and then select the Web Dynpro Content Administrator. That is the same thing that you see if you do to via portal.

2. To Deploy your ear, if no NWDS is installed you go to Visual Administrator tool and deploy it or do it via SDM.

Hope to have answered your question.

Best regards,

Dharmi
