Dear,

It is not possible because with reference of your material PO, good recipt and invoice has been done.

If you want to change unit of measure first you have to cancel each document which are created with reference of material.

The Base unit of measure of the material can not be changed once the Material Master is created and saved, before saving if you like to change any changes you can but once it is created you can not despite with out purchase transactions.

You can enter Order unit in Purhasing view if it is for order unit.

You can maintain Alternative Unit for Base unit in Additinal data of Material Master with conversion factor.

make sure that u dont have that material in stock, no open RFQ, PR, PO, no pending GR and LIV.

then system would allow u to change UOM

not possible to change the basic unit

u have to cancell all doc created for the material and then change the umo

if u want to use the other unit for purchase then u can use the ordering unit or issuing unit

hi,

Its not possible if you have the respective documents for the same base unit of measurement...

eg:

You can display the available capacity in one or several units of measurement of a dimension different from the base unit of measurement. In this way, you can also display the available capacity in the units "liter" or "cubic meter" (for example, for vessel volumes). However, you must process the conversion of the base unit of measurement in the desired dimension. You can enter the conversion for one or several alternative units.

The units of measurement are always displayed with reference to the dimension of the base unit of measurement. For example, if the base unit of measurement is "hours" and you want to display the available capacity in "tons", you must specify how many tons can be produced within a certain amount of time (for example, one hour or thirty minutes).

When you define the conversion factor for a unit of measurement that has a specific dimension, such as tons, the system also converts the entire dimension.

Within capacity requirements planning and in the available capacity profile, you can view the available capacity and requirements in the unit of measurement that you defined in the conversion.

Procedure

On the Header screen for capacity maintenance, choose Extras --> Units of Meas.

The Conversion of Units of Measurement dialog box appears.

Enter the data for the conversion to the new unit of measurement.

hope it helps...

Hai,

In addition to the above said answer, Refer OSS note No: 30656 - Change base unit of measure

Symptom

When maintaining a material master record, you change the base unit of measure or the batch management requirement indicator or the valuation category. The system then tells you that this change is not possible since stocks still exist. However, no stocks are shown for the material in the stock overview.

Reason and Prerequisites

The message that stocks still exist refers not only to stocks in the current period, but also to stocks in the previous period.

The reason for checking previous period stocks is that postings can also be made to the previous period when entering goods movements. This would result in inconsistencies if the base unit of measure had meanwhile been changed.

Solution

Please check whether stocks still exist for the previous period by displaying, for example, the plant stock view or storage location stock view of the material. You do this by selecting "Extras -> Previous period -> Prev. pd SLoc. stock or Prev. pd plant stock".

If previous period stocks exist, you can make a withdrawal posting as follows:

1. Post the same amount to current period stock (for example, using movement type 561) so that previous period stock and current period stock are identical.

2. Make a withdrawal posting in the previous period for the stock together with posting date (for example, using movement type 562).

You can now try again to change the base unit of measure or the batch management requirement indicator.

Since the posting of the previous period values to zero is identical with posting to the stocks of the current period, you should reverse the above stock postings (i.e. the stock from the previous period should be booked in again) to make sure that the stock values from the previous and the current periods correspond to the state before the change. Please note, however, that the postings are then carried out using the changed master data from the current period (e.g. account determination, etc.)!
