Can someone tell me about the concept Pivot in SAPMDM
Hi Shifali,
Pivoting is an important concept of SAP-MDM.
It is used in situation where you need to restructure you source data virtually so as to facilitate correct mapping and importing of master data into SAP-MDM.
Some times the master dat sourec is stacked vertically, this increases the number of rows and reduces the number of fields.
The field information is present as meta data and value pair, which is difficult to map and inconvienent to use.
So we use MDM pivoting to create a new pivot table which will transform the field values as field names.

Hi,
Pivotingu201D what we call in MDM is reconstructing data or rotating data .
Note: pivoting can only b done on sources which are appendable or which provides the privilege of modifying the structure. Thus sources like XML, MS Access , ORACLE provides this facility coz this is a feature in which (unlike hierarchy , joins , multiple fields) this feature on implementing make a permanent impact on the source.
Hope it helps.

Hi Shifali,
Pivoting is the concept of interchanging rows into columns and vise versa, In MDM we achieve this through Import Manager.
Generally when we import Updateable files(Access, XML...) and the format of the files does not meet your requirement, where in you have an column which you want as an row, then you use the option of pivot to change that column into row, and then proceed with importing the file into MDM Repository.. Similarly you can do with Reverse Pivot, for changing a row into column.
Cheers,
Cherry.
