What is u2018Required (Purchasing UoM)u2019 in the Planning tab of Item Master? What is the purpose of setting this value? There is a validation that this value must be between the MIn and Max value. Why?
Hi All
So far it is clear that Required value must be between Min and Max (not including) and we set this value for our convenience. But is there any method in arriving at this value? Does it have any relation with Min and Max values? Is this vlaue used anywhere else for calculation (like MRP)? Is it what is called Economic order quantity in Inventory Management?
Please advise..

Hi Jaics,
Required (Purchasing UoM) in Item Master is nothing but a helpful tools when you set up Min and Max to meet your requirement.
In other word, it is Required by you. The minimum and maximum is the lower and upper limitation setup by you too. A user such as super user can overide this setting in case any exceptions to the rule.
Thanks,
Gordon

The following is the Help by SAP for these Fields:
Enter the minimum, maximum, and required inventory levels for this warehouse.
In the Required (Purchase UoM) field, the system displays the quantity needed to keep the stock at the minimum level.
The system:
● Issues alerts when the quantity goes below the minimum (Release Stock Below Minimum Level in Document Settings must be selected)
● Does not let you enter stock documents when stock reaches maximum quantity

Hi,
There is a validation that the value must be between min and max value because the field is a field to control the stock level requirement. The minimum inventory is not allowed over required (purchase UOM) field or as same as minimum inventory and the max can't below the field or as same the field.
Some users can let it empty and just fill min and max fields.
This is an inventory management feature. The MRP and forecast will use the max and min field especially if your planning system is make to stock.
