SAP GUI 710 Disappears

Good Morning Forum Members,

We have had several reports from users indicating that their SAP GUI session disappears unexpectedly while viewing data output from a query. Following are some details:

1. The queries were all different. Some were custom and some were delivered standard from SAP.

2. We are using SAP GUI 710 (File Version 7100.1.6.1038, Build 962015, Patch level 6)

3. The operating system is Windows XP Professional, Version 2002, Service Pack 2

4. No error message was displayed, and no trace log entries were generated.

5. The problem is very intermittent, and we have not been able to reproduce the problem in our support center.

6. The users' computers are fairly new and all have adequate memory installed. Few if any other applications were being run at the time of the problem.

I realize this is not a very well defined problem. We are mainly looking to see if others out in the user community have had similar experiences, and to see if we can somehow reliably reproduce the problem in our support center so that we might be able to troubleshoot or submit an OSS message.

Thank you!

Hello Brian Oswalt. First of all tru to check this users SAPworkdir folder, may be you find something here. Also try to ask your network team, may be this users are connected to one swith, or all hase the same network card? Try to replace network card (for testing) on specific users. Regards.

The service pack upgrade unfortunately did not resolve our problem. We are going to try to upgrade the SAP GUI front end to see if this helps. We will be going to SAP GUI release 710 patch level 11. And although our problem does not seem to affect BEx queries, we will also be going to patch level 8 for the BI tools.

For those upgrading their SAP GUI, something we found during our testing is a known problem when uninstalling an older version. It causes a problem with BEx queries in the Portal - a false error message is displayed that indicates pop-up blockers are enabled so you can't see the results of your query and also causes other navigation issues within IE (when you click on a url that opens another window, the contents are blank). SAP Note 1159538 addresses this issue. The note says that Internet Explorer needs to be re-installed to correct the problem. We found that re-registering the file MSHTML.tlb worked as well using a command similiar to the following:

c:\WINNT\system32\URTTEMP\regtlib.exe MSHTML.tlb

No guarantees this will work for everyone, but it was a much better option for us. Otherwise we would have had to re-install IE on hundreds of machines.

We've been having these types of issues ever since upgrading to ECC 6.0. We're at SAP_BASIS support package SAPKB70013. We've been trying SAPGUI710 patch 11, but there's a note about ALV scrolling and a memory leak in this SAPGUI patch (1295487), but we had issues before 11 even came out. We're still trying to nail it down...

Thank you for the information Steve. It looks like SAPGUI710 patch 12 is now available, which should fix the memory leak. But like you, we were having problems long before installing patch 11. As we have been investigating this problem, we found that only a subset of our users have reported this issue, and their computers are configured in the same way. So their support department is going to upgrade their Java SDK to the most current level in case this is causing an issue. I'll post back when we know anything more. This is definitely a tough one to nail down!

We upgraded to SAP GUI release 710 patch level 11 (File version 7100.3.11.1042) and also had the latest version of the Java Runtime installed on the machines of those users who were having the problem. This appears to have fixed the problem. I cannot say for sure whether it was the SAP GUI patch level or the JRE version, but the problem is now resolved.

Hi,

Our problem was within the BEx Analyzer (Excel) which sporadically dissapeared while running a query or workbook, especially when in the variable pop-up screen. This was raised with SAP who recreated the problem at their end eventually and the fix is within some dll files which will be issued with FrontEnd SP 801 Bex 710. We are now waiting for this to be officially released (week 2 2009) before we commence our testing again. I can't tell from the above messages whether you are having the problem on BW or SAP so please excuse me if this infomation is irrelevant.

We are still in the process of upgrading the system to SP16. We have to wait until we move the upgrade to our Production system before the users will have access to retest, which should be in the middle of December. I will try to update this thread once we receive word back.

Hi Brian,

Thank you for your response, just to let you know we are on SAPKB70012 but we applied the correction in the sap note 1053399 however it has not resolved our issue. The crashes are still happening. No useful traces logs yet either.

Sap dissapears, no error trace logs, on server or client?

any new ideas?

We have not been able to resolve this issue yet. No logs are generated (neither on the server side nor the workstation) and the problem occurs on workstations on different network segments. We did run across note 1053399, which describes a problem while scrolling with a mouse through data displayed in an ALV grid. After asking our users, this may be the problem. This correction is included in the service pack upgrade we are currently applying (SAPKB70013), but we will not know the outcome for several more weeks. We are hopeful this note resolves our issue.

Hi Brian,

Did you resolve the problem with the SAPGUI session dissapearing while running queries? We are currently testing the SAPGUI 710 with ?Bex Analyzer 710 and BEx Analyzer 3.5 install and we are seeing the same problem but like you have not captured any concrete traces to send to SAP. The session dissapears sporadically.

We are testing with SAPGUI 710 patch level 8 and Bex addon 7.10 fep 700 built with ,net and Visual J# component. we would like to implement this to our user PC's in November.

Any help/advise will be greatly appreciated.

Daksha.
