We have created a Configurable material and created a Super BOM for the same.

We created a Variant and configured the variant by linking it to the configurable material in the material master of the Variant.

We would like to change the BOM of the Variant. How do we do this.

Pl Help.

Thanks.

Dear,

There are only two ways a configured BOM will be created, one is by linking the KMAT to through CS40 or create a BOM for variant just like creating a normal BOM.

Dear,

Yes you can the best way to connect the variant BOM to the Super BOM. Creating a new BOm to the Variant. But it's advisable to go for the first step

Hi,

As explained already, since you are operating with selection conditions, you cannnot change in the explorer view (CSMB), you have to identify the selection condition which influenced the selection of a particular component and then change it so that it selects the new component as required by you now.

As Ashok has mentioned, the Variant BOM is a SubSet of your Super BOM based upon your Characteristic Selections. He has also mentioned you need to change the Selection Conditions in your Super BOM to select the material you need. If the material does not exist in your Super BOM, you will need to add it with the Object Dependencies required per your needs and make any other adjustments for the current material being selected.

Hi,

The varaint does not have a BOM of its own.

Its BOM will be a subset of the super BOM. You will have to define object dependencies (selection conditions) for picking up the BOM of the variant from the super BOM.

Please check the link below for exaplanation on selecting parts for variants.

http://help.sap.com/erp2005_ehp_03/helpdata/EN/92/58d455417011d189ec0000e81ddfac/frameset.htm

In the above link expand info tree "Super bom". Under this you have an info tree "Selecting BOM items". click on this. you have explanations, then expand this and read down the info tree for more details.

Hi Ashok,

We have defined the Object dependencies in the super BOM. We can view the BOM for the Variant through the BOM Explorer but we would like to change the BOM of the Variant that was created by the system. How do we do this?.

Thanks.

You can either create a BOM especially for the configured material (perhaps using the copy from function) or allocate the configured material to the BOM for the configurable product. The second option is the more common solution.

If you allocate the configured material to the BOM for the configurable product, the BOM for the configurable product is interpreted and exploded according to the characteristic values assigned. The interpretation includes the processing of selection conditions and the setting of field values in BOM items according to the relevant actions.

Allocating a Configured Material to a BOM

To allocate the configured material to the BOM of the configurable product, proceed as follows:

From the bills of material menu, choose Bills of material -->Material BOM -->Alloc. config. mat. --> Create.

Enter the name of your configured material in the Material field.

You see a screen on which your configured material is shown as the first allocation. Select the allocation and choose the All allocs for BOM function to see all the materials allocated to this BOM.

Save your allocation.

Please check the link below for exaplanation on selecting parts for variants.

Hi,

In this case, you have to change the selection conditions if you want to change the BOM.

It cannot be changed physically because the BOM identification is through selection conditions only.
