Windows Vista Home Premium - SAP GUI

Hi Experts,

I have Windows Vista Home Premium Operating System.

After checking some of the sdn forums postings, (it looks like some people have successfully installed SAP GUI 710 on their PCs with Windows Vista Home Premium OS.) , I created a folder on C drive and downloaded / saved / ran ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sapgui/win/710/compilation2/50088654_4.zip file

and then downloaded / saved latest patch

ftp://ftp.sap.com/pub/sapgui/win/710/patches/gui710_9.exe into the same folder.

Then i tried to run setup.bat file, but was unsuccessful.

Then, I ran SapGuiSetup.exe file .and followed the steps needed for SAP Front End Installation wizard as listed in the screenshots in http://cba.uah.edu/tutorials/sap.html

After restarting the system, I clicked on the SAP Logon icon.

But, I am NOT able to see to see any systems there to log into.

Please help!

Application Sever----

> Host name or IP of the system

System No----

> System Number like 00 or 10 etc

>D01/P01 etc

Hope this will help.

Pl award suitable if resolved.

Hello,

That windows vista version is not supported, you can install sap gui in the following versions of windows vista:

- Windows Vista 32bit (only "Business", "Ultimate" and "Enterprise" editions).

- Windows Vista 64bit edition on x64 (AMD) and Intel EM64T (only "Business", "Ultimate" and "Enterprise" editions).

Check this note:

Note 66971 - Supported SAP GUI platforms

Shankar,

when I was installing SAP GUI, I had to run SapGuiSetup.exe file multiple times in order to make it executable (also, i did reboot my system a few times) with Windows Vista Home Premium edition. I listed the steps that I followed in my initial posting.

Hi Dev,

I found your thread regarding SAP installation on Windows Vista Home Premium OS.

I am also looking forward to install SAP ABAP in my system.

Please let me know from scratch how to go for this installation.

Hi,

Just an additional information tomy last post in this chain.

Please make sure you are using either one of the "Business" or "Ultimate" editions of Vista (see http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/windowsvista/editions/n/choose.mspx for more information on Vista editions).

The "Home" editions and Vista "Starter" are not supported by SAP GUI 710.

This is documented in SAP Note 66971.

Please let me know if this is sufficient.

Kindly, award points if helpful.

Thanks, Dibya

Hi,

I checked the installtion procedure mentioned at http://cba.uah.edu/tutorials/sap.html - this should book. Try to download the lates SAP Frontend Installation Guide from the SAP Service Marketplace (httpp://service.sap.com/instguides)you will need a S-user ID to download this.

As per the latest PAM (http://service.sap.com/pam) SAPGUI 710 on Windows VISTA is fully supported.

Once installed as mentioned by others in the forum you have to create your entries manually by pressing the "New Item" button, and you have to enter the Description, Server, SID (System Identifier), System # and router string (if any) as well.

Remember, SAPGUI is just a frontend it connects to a SAP Applicaton Server and hence you need to know all the entries.

Also, check whether you have the saplogon.ini file in your C:\Windows folder.

Let me know if this is sufficient or else I can elaborate.

Thanks, Dibya

Hello,

If you followed those steps your installation is ok. After the installation you have to enter the systems manually.

You can also do saplogon.ini File Update / Replacement, if you have a computer with already configured systems, extract saplogon.ini file and replace saplogon.ini on your computer.
