I have several reports sitting on a Windows box that is called by an .asp page....My firm is switching from windows box to a unix box...just throwing this out there b/f doing initial testing....will the crystal reports be fine sitting on a unix box?
Well we did have some sort of a Java SDK for 8.5 that could be run on Unix but it was new and limitted in what it could do, and 8.5 has not been a supported tool for quite a long time!
I would recommend moving to a newer version of Crystal, 11.5 minimum or better yet Crystal 2008. There are conciderations that you need to remember when moving the reports over:
- How do they connect? Are these connections possible on Unix? For example a report that is going through OLEDB to an MS Access table will have issues as OLEDB and MDAC doesn't work on Unix.
- Do your reports make use of Custom UFLs? Custom UFLs written in COM for windows will not work on Unix.
