hello experts,
Is there any relation between lot sizes in material master, BOM , routing and wherever lot size is mentioned?
Dear,
Lot size in Material master system uses within materials planning to calculate the quantity to be procured or produced.
Supoose that you have planned order for 100 PC now on that basis system will select the BOM and Routing that comes in lot size 100 PC. BOM and routing also have the lot size. And you can have number of BOM and routing. But system will select the perticular BOM and Routing according to lot size. You can use production version also to maintain lot size.
Hope clear to you.

Hi,
This lot size is required to maintain consistency between this Master data.Because in many industries they have facility to manufactured same product with different lot sizes, resources.Which they can use in normal conditions , Breakdown or in case of urgency to completing the Orders.
Now Lot sizes in Material Master :-
This lot size factor decides the Plan order qty during MRP.During Manual creation of Plan order this lot size limit will not work.
Lot sizes for BOM :-
This lot size is not related to lot sizing in Material master. But it decides the the usage of BOM.For example if your plan order is of 10000 Nos.But Lot size of Alt BOM 1 is 1 to 5000 Nos. in that case this BOM is not consider for plan order.
Lot Sizes for Routing / Master Recipe :-
The logic behind this is same as BOM.

Hi,
Lot size is the method of making lots for the production.
Where as in BOM and in Routing we will be giving the quantity of items to produce a single final product.
Thanks

Hi,
Pls. find some basic details about Lot Size :
Use
Lot-sizing procedures serve to calculate the procurement quantities, that is, the purchase order and production quantities.
Integration
1.You define lot-sizing procedures in Customizing for MRP in the IMG activity Check lot-sizing procedure.
2.You assign the required lot-sizing procedure to the material in the Lot size field in the material master (MRP 1 view).
Features
Three groups of lot-sizing procedures are available:
1.Static lot-sizing procedures
2.Period lot-sizing procedures
3.Optimum lot-sizing procedures
You can also use the short-term and long-term lot size to divide the planning period for the lot-size calculation into a short-term and a long-term area. Therefore, it is also possible to use a different lot-sizing procedure for calculating the lot size in each of these areas.
The last lot can be planned exactly, independent of the selected lot-sizing procedure.
Hope this clarifies your doubt.

Tejas
