Dear,

Production Versions are used to describe the production process to be used for planned / production order.

In production version we maintain the combination of BOM and routing.

Also it can be designed with lot size or validity period.

Go to MM02--->MRP4 / Work scheduling view -

> Prod.Version.

Routing :- Routing is the sequience of operation required to manufacture any product.

You can create it in CA01 or CA21.

if we can create order with routing then why there is need of production version?

Hi,

If you have only one routing system will select that routing in production order.

If you have more than one routing and you have created production version, system will select routing from production version.

Dear,

Yes you are right, but if you have different BOM and Routing and you want to select the particular combination in that case you required the production version.

Hope clear to you.

Hi,

Routing is sequence of operation to produce a material or assembly.

Production version used to link BOM & routing to produce a material.

To produce a material, many alternate routings & alternate BOMs will be available due to different techniques. With prod version we can define which BOM with which routing to produce a material.

A material can have many production versions.

Hi,

For a single material if ur having multiple BOM and routing then u should create production version with combination of BOM and routing.

So when u creating production order u can select production version manually or depending upon the lot size defind in the production version or valid date system will select the proper production version.

If u have single BOM and routing then no need to create production version.

Dear sarfaraz lodhi ,

Production version is a combination of BOM & Routing in the case of Discrete Manufacturing and it's a

combination of BOM & Rotuing/Rate Routing in the case of Repetitive Manufacturing.

Created either through MM02 by selecting MRP4 view or else through C223

A production version determines the various production techniques that can be used to produce a material.

It defines the following information:

· Alternative BOM for a BOM explosion

· Task list type, task list group, and group counter for assignment to task lists

· Lot-size restrictions and period of validity

A material can have one or more production versions.

Routing contains the set of operation that's required for producing a product either a HALB - Semi-

Finished product or else a FERT - Finished Product.

The T code for creating Routing is CA01.

Production version is to match task list and BOM(specially usefull if there are many task list and many alternate BOM)

while routing(task list of type N) is to tell a way operation are performed for production.
