How to call API of Unix system in ABAP program?

I need to call an API which is in UNIX system, from my ABAP program.

Is this possible? How?.

Hi anil thanks for your answer. but still i am not clear abpout this.let me explain my issue .

I am working SAP R/3 ecc 6.0. My application server has Unix as OS. In this Unix we have an API (written in C ) and i have to call this API in my ABAP program.

I want to know is this possible.
