Safety stock is the stock for emergency...
In case of Raw materials -Consider a situation where you ordered for material and as per the consumption patern, you will get the material before safety stco level arrives...if every thing goes well and just before teaching safety stock if you get the material into stock, then it is okay...consider of material does not reach as per the schedule, then there should be some reserve stock to coninue with production...hence we need safety stock.
In case of Products safety stock can be calculated based on how much service % required by the custonmer is required and not only on delivery
In can be fixed or may be changing.
