variables in query designer

As I remember the variables in query designer from BI 7.0 is InfoObject dependent, for example if I create a variable for

0FISCYEAR under one InfoCube , the variable should be use and available by any InfoCube which include the InfoObject 0FISCYEAR, but I just notice that I can not find the variable in query designer under char value variable for 0FISCYEAR which was created under different InfoCube ? Did I miss some thing?

It's a customer exit variable

is it a simple variable or does it reference any characteristic?

If it references, then if that characteristic is not included in the infocube, then the variable may not be available.
