but where should i put the file in xi server

Hi, If you use NFS, then choose a folder path from AL11 transaction like '/test/demo.txt'
Then you need to run a program which will drop the file over here.
Then define this path in the file path in communication channel.

if u select nfs in the communication channel then paste the input file in some folder in ur local drive and give the path in the field source directory in CC.
if u use the ftp server then u need to give the system information also.(ftp server is a secured one than nfs.

When you are creating the communication channel it asks the source folder, you mention some folder path. on that folder in you should mention the file.

In source file adapter which path (Source folder) u have written accordingly past the file in source file. Target file will create based on target file path in target adapter (Target Folder). Before that better to check whether have authorization for read/write for files.
If protocol is FTP need to give system information also else no need.

Use NFS Transport protocol in the Sender File CC and Place the file in the XI Application Server(AL11).
1) goto SXDA_TOOLS Transaction code
2) Provide the Following details
Object Type : DXPROJECT
Program Type: BAPI
Program/Method: CREATE
3) Click on Copy Button
4) Select the Source as Presentation Server
a) Select the File where you saved in your Local machine
5) Select the Target as Application server
a) Check the check box Remote Server
b) Select the File type as Physical
c) In File name give /usr/sap/SSD/DVEBMGS00/work\Your file name (This the Server path
Where the file is going to save)
6) Click on Continue
Go to AL11 and check whether the File has been create in the following path //usr/sap/SSD/DVEBMGS00/work
Provide this path in the Communication channel path when you select the Transport Protocol as NFS and you place the file in AL11 directory.

You can use the FTP to pcik the file from legacy system .
in the location option you had to mention the address of the system where the file have been put by you .
