Hi,

To incorporate different Manufacturing Tecnics for a single material Production version are used.

Production version is a combination of Alternate Bill of Materials no. and Routing / master Recipe group and Gorup no.

It also used for Lot sizing restriction in Rem. Scenario.

T.Code for creating Production version are

C223 - Manage Production version.

You can create producion version during Creation of Master Recipe / Routing C201 /CA01 and even in material Master also (MM01 / MM02).

Suppose you have 2 different production line L- 1 and L - 2 and you can Manufacture in any of this Line as per the available capacity. So in this case you have to create 2 different Routing / Master Recipe which contains the different Work center/Resource or Production line.

Now to incorporate this 2 line you can create 2 different production version.

1) L100 - Recipe (Line -1 ) + Alternate BOM 1

2) L200 - Recipe (Line -2 ) + Alternate BOM 1.

Now if you have 2 different BOM to manufacture a single product with above scenario then you can create Production versions as below,

1) L101 - Recipe (Line - 1) + Alternate BOM 1

2) L102 - Recipe (Line - 1) + Alternate BOM 2

3) L201 - Recipe (Line - 2) + alternate BOM 1

4) L202 - Recipe (Line - 2) + Alternate BOM 2.

As per the requirement and Availbale capacity you can select any of the Production version for Planing and Production purpose.

How it differs from Planning Strategy?

Planing Strategy and Production version both are totally different things.

Planning strategies represent the business procedures for the planning of production quantities and dates While Production version decides the how production is carried out means on which production line / Process and from which components

Hi Srinivasa ,

The production version determines production techniques that can be used to produce a material.

Production version is a combination of BOM & Routing in Discrete scenario & in REM scenario its a combination of BOM & Rate routing/Rotuing.

It specifies:

u2022 BOM alternative for a BOM explosion

u2022 Task list type, task list group, and group counter for allocation to task lists

u2022 Lot-size restrictions and area of validity.

Production version is maintained in the MRP 4 screen .here you put the version number validity dates & whether it is activated for repetitive . Then in the details screen you put in the lot sizes the routing group & group counter , the alternative BOM number etc. & all other data that is relevant

Collective maintenance of Production version u2013 C223.

Examples : If you have many routings with many alternative BOMs system will refer prod version in mrp 4 and cometo know which routing and BOM to refer for production.

Planning strategy will not affect prod version .

Dear Srinivasa Iyengar,

1.Production version is a combination of BOM & Routing in Discrete scenario & in REM scenario its a

combination of BOM & Rate routing/Routing.

2.Production version is a method or technique which's is used to produce a material.

3.A Material may be having one or more production version.

4.Production version can be differentiated by using either the validity date or Lot size range.

5.Say For Eg: Prod.Version1 --> Alt BOM1 & Routing1

Prod.Version2---> Alt BOM2 & Routing 1.

6.It has the status Locked and unlock.

6.Generally its created using T code MM02,by selecting MRP4 view and clicking on Production version key.

7.It's a master data in REM scenario.

8.Production versions can also be created using T code C223 for more than one material.

Planning strategy:

Planning strategies represent the business procedures for the planning of production quantities and dates. A wide range of production planning strategies are available in the SAP system, offering a large number of different options ranging from pure make-to-order production to make-to-stock production. Depending on the strategy you choose, you can:

· Use sales orders and/or sales forecast values to create the demand program

· Move the stocking level down to the assembly level so that final assembly is triggered by the incoming sales order

· Carry out Demand Management specifically for the assembly

You can also combine planning strategies. This means that you could select the planning strategy Planning with Final Assembly (40) for a finished product, but you can still select a different strategy, such as Planning at Assembly Level (70) for an important assembly in the BOM of this finished product.

The planning strategies available for a material are listed in Customizing. You can assign a planning strategy to a material in the material master record, by means of a strategy group. Different requirements types are defined for each of the strategies and each requirements type contains important control parameters.

Hi,

One product can be manufactured from various Bill of materials & various sequence of operation.

To combine BOM with routing for a product, Production version is necessary. So one product can have more than one Prod version.

Planning strategy is not related with Prod version.

Hi,

production version is a combination of BOM and Routing.

Production version will be useful while creating production order.

It is also useful for the Repetetive Mfg.

Thanks

Hello

Suppose you have maintained 2-3 alternate BOM and 2-3 routing for production of particular material then only production version will tell which BOM and which routing is used for production
