Nilkantan,

Previously SAP prefers to have the common SLD for all landscapes, but as per today's business requirments there is need to go for seperate SLD for development, Quality & Prod.

It completely depends if the Integration of the various applications or Business are based on various landscapes.

For .eg If in case the Sender and recevier applications are same for dev, Quality, Prod. XI servers then its better to have common SLD, but the sender and receivers systems are seperate for dev, pord etc. then it becomes very vauge to maintain all landscape in common SLD. rather maintaining seperate SLDs could help to channelaize it in well organized way.

You go through this Disscussion

Configuration of CMS in Central NWDI & SLD to transport XI objects:

Refer the configuring group and transport group for Business systems.

Areas of SLD:

There are two main areas of SLD they are:

 Software catalog

 Systems Catalog

Software catalog:

 Using Software catalog you can Create Products and software components for the different scenarios you wish to work on.

 A Software product can hold u201Cnu201D number of software components in it with multiple versions for example a software product (SAP r/3) may exist in multiple versions such as (4.6c, 4.6d, and 4.7).

 A software Component is a Unit of software Delivery that has been assigned to a product.

 Example of software components are SAP_APPL, SAP_ABA, SAP_HR, etc.

 A Software Product is composed of one or more software components, for instance, the productR/3 version 4.6C has components

SAP BASIS, SAP APPL, SAPABA and etc.

 For example: A Software Product can be compared as Microsoft Office 2003 in which we have different software components such as Microsoft word, excel and etc.

 One software Product can have u201Cnu201D software components

 One software component can be assigned to only u201C1u201D Product.

NOTE: Ratio between SWC AND Product is 1:1

Ratio between Product AND SWC is 1: n

Systems Catalog: In systems catalog you will find two types of systems they are

 Technical systems

 Business systems

Technical System: Technical systems are the application systems which define which system or client is involved in Business

Business System: Business system is the one which is involved in communication and participating in business transactions. Basically a business system is a client of technical system.

NOTE: So we can say that every business system is assigned to on technical system.

Example: SAP ECC is a technical system the client 130 of this SAP ECC system can be considered as the Business system.

DEPENDENCY IN SLD:

 A Dependency in SLD is created in order to reduce the number of hits to SAP servers while importing the IDOC/RFCu2019s.

 One software component Imports the Idocu2019s and a dependency is created on this software component.

 Now all the dependent Software components will get the Idocu2019s imported by this Root software component under the basis objects of the Integration repository objects.
