No customer master record exists for sold-to party 1186

Hi Experts, i am new to SD. Now, i encounter a problem on creating promotion order. I am using TCODE VA01. After input promotion order, and choose sold-to-party, and click save button, It always alerts error: "No customer master record exists for sold-to party 1186"

Any one can tell me how to reslove this problem, and provide some learning materlas for this SD part.

Go to XD03 / VD03, input the sold to party code and click on "Customer's sales areas" so that you can see in which sales area, the customer has been created.

Ensure that in VA01 also, you have maintained the same sales area after entering the order type. I have a feeling that you have entered a different sales area there and hence the issue.
